The Ballon d’Or and nine other awards will be presented this Monday in Paris. We give you all the useful information before the evening kicks off.
Two months after
the nominees were revealed , the Ballon d’Or ceremony is preparing to deliver its verdict on Monday evening at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Players will be rewarded for the past sports season and around several criteria. The most dominant is the following: “individual performances and decisive and impressive character.” Followed by “the collective aspect and the trophies won” and “the class and the sense of fair play.”
Some adjustments to designate the Ballon d’Or
The male winner is chosen by a jury of 100 international journalists: one per country in the top 100 of the FIFA rankings. It is 50 for the women. Each voter designates a top 10 in descending order with points for each position. 15 points for first place, 12 for second then 10, 8, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point. Result: no one with zero points and a ranking of 30 with real differences.
As for the favourites for this year’s Ballon d’Or, it’s a four-way, or even five-way match for the men with Vinicius Jr, Jude Bellingham, Rodri, Dani Carvajal or Tony Kroos as surprises? For the women, a leading trio emerges with Salma Paralluelo, Caroline Graham Hansen and Aitana Bonmatí even if the American Olympic champions are not far behind.
